She had gotten permission from Yaotl's Alpha, Msi, to borrow his Shaman, and the Shaman, Nirvana's consent to be borrowed, had also agreed.  It wasn't easy, no, but it had been done.  Nirvana had been filled in on the details, and had indicated a willingness to at least allow them the attempt.  She had arrived in the Tyler Tribal lands not long ago, and was standing in the square of the village.  They all waited for the Shaman's signal to start.

When Nirvana stood as though about to declare the Match begun, Matla tensed and crouched toward the ground.  This was her tactic every so often with Dedric, because he was the taller of the two of them, and it worked often as not to take him off-balance.

For the times it worked flawlessly, the match would be over that quick, but if it were the case this time, she would feel cheated, knowing it had been too easy.  So she waited for the sound of Nirvana calling a start to the match before she lunged forward, aiming for his feet; the lowest strike possible.  She was intending to knock him to the ground at least with the action that would follow.

How to pin her without squashing her.... He knew she wasn't going to go down easy.

At the Shaman's shout (he still resented that his Alpha had managed to run off before he could) Matla shot towards him, a purple and black streak, aiming low.

Bracing himself, he waited until the very last moment before she was upon him--and used her gained momentum to continue her forward movement as he pushed up and over her shoulders. Leap frog had always been a favorite game of his. He made sure she continued forward with a well placed foot to the rear as she went under, hopping she'd stumble and maybe face-plant.

Turning about with a grin, he quickly raced forward, aiming to tackle her to the ground with a nice long gloat.

When he leapt over her shoulder, Matla had a split second to re-plan this, more than a little gleefully, as it meant this wasn't going to be over with too quickly.
She let her momentum, and his foot- which he'd pay for- send her to the ground, but she rolled with it, and then lurched just far enough back to her feet to make an attempt at meeting his rush with her feet braced, shoulders resting low, making herself a smallish boulder.  When he reached her braced spot, she reached for one of those flailing knees to knock him off his feet, if the shoulder to the midsection didn't do it.  She wasn't letting him pin her that easily any more than she wanted to pin him too soon, mind.

He huffed out a breath as his stomach connected with her shoulder and inwardly cursed as he was sent tumbling over. His automatic response was to twist around while whipping out his tail in an attempt to trip her. Once down, he would pounce. And gloat. There would be lots of gloating.

He made sure to ignore the hoots and shouts on the sidelines from his mother. She'd made good on her promise to cheer for his current adversary.

As if she was going to stay put after putting a shoulder to his gut.

She knew better, thanks to prior experience in wrestling.  By the time he finished sailing over her shoulder she was already rolling out of the way.  Or so she thought.  That tail of his was unfortunately still long enough to whip her along the shoulder as she moved, so she was left to favor it as she skittered the rest of the way out of the way.  In retaliation, she flipped her tail in his direction, figuring that even if it didn't connect, it would act as a deterrent for him getting too close too soon.

After swiping at him with her own tail in return, she returned to her low-to-the-ground stance, on both feet, and with one hand to the ground.  For once, she would wait for his next move, rather than running at him.  He seemed to have caught on to the idea of dashing at him to get the first 'point' in as it were, though in this case, the final score would outweigh all the others.

He waited for only a short while before seemingly deciding that it was his turn again to rush, as she'd taken to waiting, and ran in her direction for a few steps, before veering sharply to his left, and then taclking her from that side, arms outstretched to pin hers in place.

Not having enough time to change the way she was braced to account for that- a base weight spread would still yield to ~that~ much mass barreling one's way, mind, Matla was toppled to the ground under his weight.  But as she went down, she curled up so that her feet were tucked close to her torso, so he could not lock her arms in place.  She then scrambled out from under him and skittered to the other side of the 'ring,' as it were.

Hearing Sev and Terpsis cheering for Dedric of all people, her ears flattened, but she refused to look their way to scold them, as she could see the Beta returning to his own feet and getting ready for another pass.  She had a plan for that, namely rushing at him in return, and pulling her own veering tactic, swiping at his leg with her tail as she changed course.

Having one leg swept out from under him mid-step, Dedric stumbled to the ground, but recovered quickly enough that he couldn't be further attacked by his Alpha.  He grinned as he heard Tlal and Jaz cheering for him, but paid no more attention to it than that.  He couldn't as she was heading his way again.

As Matla got closer, Dedric crouched lower, and opened his arms wide, as if ready for a hug.  That alone made her doubt her plan of action in this case.  So she veered off to the side in a crab-like gait, with a mock-glare.

He followed up the scare tactic that was diverted with a dash of his own that had her yipping and plain rolling out of the way as he laughed at her.  "I know you're scared to lose, but we both already know you will, so why don't you give in gracefully?"

"This is not a matter of grace!" She countered, and charged forward, jumping at the last second to launch herself, tucked up, at his torso.  It might have knocked him over, had he not dropped to the ground as she took to the air.  So she was left yipping as she sailed over his head, trying to catch herself enough that she could control the roll afterward.

While Matla was inwardly grumbling about how unfair it was for something that big to tuck up that small, Dedric was standing back up and stalking over to her.  She managed to make it back to her feet just in time to be knocked back down, flat on her back with a red-haired dead-weight atop her.  Before he had a chance to make the pin proper, she scuttled her feet in place for it and bucked him right back off, running away again, to get some breathing room.

Instead of standing still as she kept her distance, she paced sideways in a lope, until he decided to chase after.  At which point it turned into an outright run once around the 'ring,' until he caught up.  Dedric then managed to get close enough while behind Matla just long enough to get his arms around her, just under her arms.  In what she'd never admit was a moment of panic, because by golly she was ~not~ going to listen to him crow about pinning her if she could help it, she kicked her feet up into the air, and curled up, and then kicked her feet back out into the air.  He hadn't had a chance to brace for all of her weight, plus such a strong change in distribution in where all that weight went, so he lurched off-balance.

She stuck one leg back behind one of his knees, and used that and his slackening grip to further knock him off his feet.  As he tipped, she got first one, then the other foot under herself, and caught his weight across her shoulders and back.  His arms made another attempt at wrapping tightly about her, but she dropped her weight to one side, and let him fall heavily off her shoulders.  She moved as quick as she could to loop one arm behind one of his knees and then pulled that whole leg towards his head, pinning one of his arms with both of her knees as she did so.

When a decent amount of time passed, and he couldn't scrabble well enough to get her to let go, Shaman Nirvana approached and sliced some of the hair needed, and made a knot of it, reciting the line, "Alpha Matla has pinned Beta Dedric, and now," she said as she handed the knot over to the two, "You are officially mated."
