I grew up on the video game, and the cartoon with Grounder and the chickenScratch (thanks *nikkicub. But the game was the thing that stuck with me the most, so it got dibs on what I did.

I used reference for the Green Hill Zone, to get an idea of some of the things one could see in the background, reference for the way Sonic's glove is set up, and because I don't have a genesis controller in front of me, reference for the shape of the controller. >.>
